Hands-On Science Fun All Summer Long!

At Sarah's Science and This Land is your Land Summer Day Camp, your child will discover just how fun learning can be! In addition to traditional camp activities like swimming, games, nature hikes, and arts and crafts, campers will make and take home a fun science project each day! A take-home science note accompanies each science lesson and is a great way to continue the learning at home. Our goal is for every child to have a summer filled with outrageous fun in a beautiful, natural setting.

With beautiful, outdoor locations in Oakland and Berkeley and weekly sessions from June 3 - August 23, This Land is Your Land Summer Day Camp provides award-winning, hands-on, outdoor science fun all summer long!

June 3 – 7: Terrific Transformers (CAMP FULL)
  • Invent an amphibious land and water vehicle

July 8 – 12: Kaboom! Pop, Burst & Bubble

  • Soar to new heights with a paper roto-copter launcher

July 22 – 26: Flinging Things!
  • Launch projectiles with a rubber band powered craft stick catapult

July 29 – August 2: All Charged Up!

August 19 – 23: Sarah's Favorite Projects
  • Construct a solar powered wave machine with adjustable speeds
  • Build a special charging pad to activate your robot and make it glow

Special Programs:

Counselor in Training (CIT) Program (For Campers Ages 11–15)
Our CIT Program is for older campers who are interested in taking on more responsibility and developing leadership skills. CITs are teamed up with an experienced counselor to assist a group of younger campers; they also participate in the usual camp projects and activities. An optional First Aid Certification is provided prior to the start of the summer and additional leadership training is provided weekly throughout the summer. The CIT Program is available for single or multiple weeks and has the same fees and discounts as the regular camp program.

Advanced Projects (For Campers Ages 9–12)
For our 9–12 year olds we offer an additional challenging project during the week.


Roberts Park, Oakland

Our Oakland site is located in beautiful Roberts Regional Park off Skyline Boulevard in the Oakland Hills. This site is known for its lush second-growth redwood forest. It also has a pool, grassy playing fields, and play structures. There is ample free parking for drop-off and pick-up.

Tilden Park, Berkeley

Our Berkeley site is located in Tilden Park at the Buckeye and Orchard Picnic Areas, lovely wooded sites below the Carousel. We are surrounded by great paths and streams, and we hike to Lake Anza to swim once a week. Free parking is available for drop-off and pick-up.

Camp Directors:

Sarah Shaffer, Founder & CEO
Sarah, "Best Science Teacher for Kids" (East Bay Express), founded This Land Is Your Land Summer Day Camp 24 years ago. She continues to develop and shape the summer camp programs and oversees each site. Sarah is a Teacher, Science Consultant, and Naturalist. She has been offering science programs for children and teachers for over 30 years.

Riva Zippin, Camp Director
Riva is a graduate of UC Berkeley and has a teaching credential from Holy Names University. This will be her 11th summer directing the Oakland site. She was an Assistant Director with us for four years and a day camp counselor for over nine years. During the school year, Riva teaches a K-2nd class at Terra Marin School in Mill Valley.

Faith Elsen, Camp Director
Faith is a graduate of the University of Central Florida with a degree in Secondary Science Education. She has taught "Toyology" after school enrichment classes with us for three years and enjoys teaching science in a fun and creative way. She has directed our camp programs for the past three years and can't wait to spend another summer outdoors learning.

Kaitlyn Knapp, Camp Director
Kaitlyn is a graduate of San Francisco State University with a Masters of Arts degree in Education. She is returning for her fourth summer with us, directing at both camp locations. Kaitlyn looks forward to sharing her love of learning and the outdoors with campers and staff.

Camp Cost:

$475/week (August Flash Sale) for registrations placed from 7/31/19 through 8/23/19. No discounts apply.
$120/day (Daily Rate) available by calling our office at (510) 581-3739. No discounts apply.

Extended Care:
The regular camp hours are 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Morning extended care is from 8:00 a.m.–9:00 a.m. for an additional $30/week.
Afternoon extended care is from 3:00 p.m.–5:30 p.m. for an additional $90/week.
Extended Care can be purchased in advance or on the day-of for the prices listed above.
A late fee of $2/minute is assessed for late pick-up after 5:30 p.m.

(Discounts cannot be combined)

Multiple week discount: Sign up for three or more weeks and deduct $20 for each week.
Sibling discount:
$20 less per week for second child (cannot be used with multiple week discount).
Please note the above discounts cannot be applied to promotional rates.

Terms and Conditions:
Summer camp fees must be paid in full at time of registration. In the event of cancellation, $100/child/week will be retained as a non-refundable deposit. No refunds will be issued after May 1, 2019. Camp sessions are not transferable to other customers. Discounts cannot be combined and are not applicable to the "Walk-In" or "Daily" rates. The walk-in rate of $530/week will be assessed for same-day registrations and registrations placed the Friday before the camp session begins. Campers who do not pre-register for morning extended care but arrive prior to 8:45 AM will be billed at the rate of $7/day or $30 for the whole week. Campers who do not pre-register for afternoon extended care but are picked up after 3:15 PM will be billed at the rate of $25/day or $90 for the full week. Please pick up promptly at the end of the day. Late pickup after 5:30 PM will be billed at the rate of $2/minute. Promotional Rates and Flash Sales may be subject to different terms.

Additional terms for August Flash Sale: Summer Camp Flash Sale rate of $475/week (a savings of $40 from our standard rate) must be paid in full at time of registration and is NON-REFUNDABLE. This offer is valid only for new or additional weeks purchased during the promotional period. This offer may not be combined with any other offers. Sibling and multi-week discounts do not apply to this rate. This rate expires Friday, August 23, 2019 at 11:59 p.m.
