After Care Camp Counselor – Summer
Camp
After Care Camp Counselors play a vital role in the success of the After
Care Program. Counselors lead activities, including arts and crafts,
games, hiking, outdoor play and snacks, and ensure that each camper feels
safe and integrated into the camp experience.
We are looking for people who are great with kids and have a positive
and energetic attitude. Experience working with children and interest
in nature and the outdoors are strongly preferred. You must have your
own transportation and be reliable. This is excellent work for students
on school breaks.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be a positive role model for After Care campers
- Provide leadership, guidance and support to campers ages 5-15
- Assist campers with art and crafts, games, hiking, outdoor play and
snacks
- Participate in the check-in and check-out processes
- Team up with other Counselors and staff to help create a fantastic
experience for all
- Assist with daily set up and clean up before and after the After
Care Program
- Attend weekly staff meetings
- Attend two days of mandatory training (June 13 and 14, 2008)
REQUIREMENTS
- Must love working with kids and be patient, caring, enthusiastic
and energetic
- Must have experience working with kids (babysitting counts)
- Demonstrate leadership qualities and be a team player
- Education: high school (must be age 16 or older), college or graduate
student
- Experience as a counselor or camper a plus
SCHEDULE
- Summer Camp at Roberts Regional Park in Oakland and at Tilden Park
in Berkeley
runs for 11 weeks, June 16 - August 29, 2008.
- Summer Camp at Little Hills Ranch, San Ramon runs 6 weeks, July 7-Aug.
15, 2008.
- Priority will be given to applicants who can work all or most of
the summer camp season (11 weeks in Oakland or Berkeley, 6 weeks in
San Ramon).
HOURS
After Care Program main hours are 3:00 pm – 5:30 pm (6:00
pm in San Ramon).
- Basic Schedule – Monday - Friday: 2:30 am – 5:45 pm (6:15
pm in San Ramon)
- Staff Meetings held one day/week from @ 2:00 pm – 2:50 pm
- After Care Camp Counselors typically work @ 17 – 20 hours/week
COMPENSATION
After Care Camp Counselors are paid $8/hour and up, depending on experience
and level of education. Payroll is processed every two weeks. |
After Care Director – Summer Camp
The After Care Director of This Land Is Your Land Summer Day
Camp manages all aspects of the After Care Program, including
staff, activities, snacks and check out. The After Care Director’s
most important goal is to ensure that the high quality of the Day Camp
is maintained so that campers and their families continue to have an
outstanding Camp experience.
We are looking for people who have demonstrated leadership experience,
excellent communication skills, and a positive and energetic attitude.
Experience working with children is a must, and specific After Care experience
is a plus. You must have your own transportation and be reliable.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide leadership, guidance and support to After Care Counselors,
campers and their families
- Be a positive role model for This Land Is Your Land After
Care Counselors
- Manage the check-in and check-out processes
- Coordinate After Care activities, including arts and crafts, games,
hiking, outdoor play and snacks
- Team up with After Care Counselors to help create a fantastic experience
for all
- Communicate effectively and professionally with camper families
- Assist with daily set up and clean up before and after the After
Care Program
- Conduct weekly staff meetings
- Attend two days of mandatory training (June 13 and 14, 2008)
REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and experience managing others
- Must be organized, detail-oriented, energetic and flexible
- Able to communicate, multi-task and resolve issues and challenges
creatively
- Must have experience working with kids
- Education: college graduate
- CPR/First Aid Certification (training provided through Sarah’s
Science)
- Experience as a counselor or camper a plus
- Requires an extensive background check before a final offer of employment.

Assistant Director – Summer Camp
The Assistant Director of This Land Is Your Land Summer Day
Camp works in close partnership with the Camp Director to
create an outstanding experience for campers and their families. The
Assistant Director provides leadership to Camp Counselors and other
staff, provides instruction for science projects, and helps coordinate
all other camp activities.
We are looking for people who have demonstrated leadership experience,
excellent communication skills, and a positive and energetic attitude.

and lunch

between campers and families throughout the day
- Assist with daily set up and clean up before and after camp
- Attend weekly staff meetings
- Attend and assist with two days of mandatory training (June 13 and

- Priority will be given to applicants who can work a full week (5
days) of spring camp.
HOURS
Spring Day Camp main hours are 8:00 am – 5:30 pm.
- Counselor Daily Work Schedule:
- 7:45 am – 4:30 pm or 9:00 am – 5:45 pm
- All staff is requested to arrive between 7:00 am – 7:15 am
on Monday of each week to help with initial set-up for the week

group as well as the larger camp experience.
We are looking for people who are great with kids, like the outdoors
and have a positive and energetic attitude. Experience working with children
and interest in science and nature are strongly preferred. You must have
your own transportation and be reliable. This is excellent summer work
for students.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be a positive role model for This Land Is Your Land campers
- Provide leadership, guidance and support to your group of approximately
10 campers throughout the day and week
- Assist your campers with their science projects, art activities,
games, hiking, swimming and outdoor play
- Participate in other camp activities, including daily music time,
two daily snacks and lunch
- Team up with other Counselors and staff to help create a fantastic
experience for all

Musician – Summer Camp
The Musician (Singer/Guitar Player) provides an important start to the
day at This Land Is Your Land Summer Day Camp. The ideal
candidate will understand how to use songs to engage children and lift
their spirits as the camp day begins. The morning music time is a sing-along,
not a performance.
We are looking for people with experience working with children who
have a large repertoire of fun, engaging songs that encourage children
to participate. Campers are ages 5-15, and the audience of children ranges
from 100-200 campers at a time. Your must be able to project clearly
out-of-doors (there is no electricity for amplification). You must have
your own transportation, and reliability is a must.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead campers in approximately 30 minutes of sing-along camp songs,
Monday-Friday mornings, approximately 9:15 am – 9:45 am
- Engage a large group of children ages 5-15 and encourage them to
participate
- Required songs include “This Land Is Your Land” (2-3
verses), “The Cat Came Back;” suggested songs include “Yellow
Submarine,” word call-outs (call and response), silly camp songs
geared to the mid-range age of 8-9 (songs such as “Hokey Pokey” don’t
work because older campers won’t participate)
REQUIREMENTS
- Must love working with children and be enthusiastic and energetic
- Must have experience working with children
- Must be able to project your voice outdoors without amplification
- At least 2 references from people who know of your work with children
- Audition (paid) required before selection
TRAINING AND SUPPORT
- We supply a training video of camp songs actually recorded at summer
camp
- We can supply a guitar and battery powered speaker if needed

Operations Manager – Summer Camp
The Operations Manager plays a key role in the success of This
Land Is Your Land Summer Day Camp by providing solid logistical
support to the Camp Director and staff. The Operations Manager manages
and coordinates the daily operations of the Camp and works closely
with the Camp Director to ensure that all activities run smoothly and
efficiently.
We are looking for people who are very organized, detail oriented and
energetic. The ability to think on your feet, anticipate the needs
of the staff and campers, and respond quickly and effectively to all
situations is also essential. Experience working with children and interest
in science and nature are strongly preferred. You must have your own
transportation and be responsible and reliable.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide administrative and logistical support to the Camp Director
- Help coordinate and participate in all camp activities, including
camper check-in and check-out, science projects, two daily snacks and
lunch
- Communicate with campers and their families in a professional and
positive manner
- Provide support to Counselors and staff to help create a fantastic
experience for all
- Manage the daily set up and clean up before and after camp
